Election 2024 is now behind us. Voters in another state (Nebraska) have put their support behind medical cannabis access for their residents, while voters in other states rejected adult-use cannabis programs. The Office of the President of the United States and the majority in the Senate have changed parties for the 119th Session of Congress, including 12 freshman Senators and at least 65 freshmen in the House.
But before we usher in the 47th President and the next Congress, the current Congress must pass Appropriations Bills and address the Farm Bill reauthorization before Christmas break. Amendments in the House version of the Justice Appropriations Bill threaten to claw back federal protections for medical cannabis patients and providers (the CJS Amendment) and halt the rescheduling process currently before the DEA. Proposed changes to the Farm Bill and other legislative proposals to regulate the hemp market could negatively impact the recognition of cannabis as a medicine.
Join ASA Staff, Advisors, Chapters, Members, and affiliates for a post-election webinar to discuss the election’s impacts, the jam-packed lame-duck session, the DEA’s rescheduling of hearings, and preparing for the 47th president and 119th Congress.
