Growing sensimilla is easier than you think. People who are not that educated on growing weed sometimes think sensimilla is a certain strain of bud, or some kind of super weed. When in fact sensimilla is just marijuana grown without seeds. The word sensimilla in spanish means “without seeds.” So with a little knowledge of basic growing anyone can grow sensimilla bud.
Before getting into growing sensimilla you should know some basic facts about the cannabis plant. There are both male and female versions of the cannabis plant and just like humans, the plants can breed. The female plant produces the bud, and the male plant produces the pollen sacs. For two plants to breed all that needs to happen is for the male pollen to get on the female plant. Once a female is pollinated it will stop putting all of its energy into forming buds and start to make seeds.
Now that you know what sensimilla is and you have some basic knowledge of the cannabis plant, you can start learning how to grow seedless bud.
Female Preflower |
When your plants are mature enough, or are forced to start budding by changing the light cycle to 12/12 they will start to show its sex. You will notice some plants look a little different than others when they show sex. On the female plant your looking for the preflower. The pre-flower looks like two small hairs forming a V. The preflowers don’t start in the bud sites, they start near the base of a node near the stipules. as shown in the female preflower picture. Don’t confuse them with the stipules. The stipules are on the plant from the beginning. In the picture below you can see the stipules and if you look hard enough, you can see the preflowers behind them. The female plant is the one you want to keep because it will product buds.
Stipules |
On the male plant you will notice pollen sacs near the stipules instead of preflowers. The male preflower looks like minature grapes. As you can see in the picture there are clusters of them on the plant. Eventually they will form all over the plant.
Male pollen sacs |
As stated above the male plant pollinates the female plant which causes it to grow seeds. Since the goal is to grow sensimilla weed you want to remove and destroy all the males. Even if you separate them pollen can still find its way to the female plant, so its best to just destroy them.
Now that you have all the males out of your grow you still have to monitor the female plants because they can hermie. A plant that has hermied has both male and female parts. It can self pollenate and produce seeds. If you find a hermie and you want seedless bud, its best to get rid of it. Not only can the hermie plant pollinate itself, but it can pollinate other females in your garden. Cannabis plants often hermie due to stress. It can also be a genetic trait.
If you can keep your grow free of males and hermies you can grow seedless cannabis. A plant that grows without seeds will often be much more potent than a plant that has grown seeds. This is because when a plant is pollinated it starts putting all of its energy into growing seeds. Plants that have not been pollinated keeps all of its energy into growing beautiful potent buds.
Now you have the knowledge to grow yourself excellent sensimilla weed. Have fun and enjoy!
